How to Choose the Right Ski Equipment for Your Child

Children grow quickly, and it can sometimes be difficult to keep up with their changing needs. When it comes to skiing, choosing the right equipment is not just about age – it’s mainly about height, weight, and overall development.

Here are a few tips to help you choose the right ski equipment for your child.

At What Age Can Children Start Skiing?

The simple answer is: as soon as they can walk!

For very young children who simply want to have fun in the snow, we offer small plastic skis that can be attached directly to their snow boots.

First Pair of Skis

Our smallest children’s skis start at 70 cm in length. To comfortably use skis of this size, children are generally around 90 cm tall.

First Pair of Ski Boots

The smallest ski boots we offer are Mondo size 14, which corresponds approximately to a European shoe size 28-29.

At this age, precision is not yet essential, so slightly larger boots can be perfectly acceptable while remaining comfortable.

What Length of Skis Does My Child Need?

As a general rule, children’s skis should reach approximately their chin when standing upright.

For more advanced young skiers, we may recommend slightly longer skis that reach eye level. Longer skis provide additional stability and performance, but it is important to remember that children are still developing their strength and skiing technique.

Choosing the correct ski length helps children progress more quickly and enjoy their time on the slopes.

When Should Children Switch to Adult Ski Equipment?

The transition to adult ski equipment depends mainly on a child’s size and strength rather than their age.

One of the first indicators is boot size. When a child reaches approximately European shoe size 39-40, adult ski boots often become a suitable option.

Adult skis generally start at around 140 cm in length, while children’s skis are available up to approximately 150 cm. The main difference is not necessarily the length, but the construction and weight of the skis.

Once a child is around 150 cm tall and has developed enough strength and weight, it may be appropriate to move to adult ski equipment.

Our team will always assess each child individually to ensure they receive the most suitable equipment.
